    Event Description:
BWiC invites you to join the conversation, to build connection, advance an initiative, maybe even solve a problem or two.  We are honored to welcome prominent women within the commercial construction industry to share the intentional and the serendipitous, their hero's and the villain's, the opportunities captured, lost  and set free, and what they spend far too much time doing, with their time.
We promise, it will be worth yours!

We welcome featured speaker Jillian Kavanagh, Manager, Office of the Vice President (Marine Institute), Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University
St John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

Recognized for her insightful and energetic approach to institutional planning, Jillian Kavanagh has led the development of the planning strategy at the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland since 2008. Her current role is the Manager of the Office of the Vice-President (Marine Institute). In addition to the management of this office, her primary roles are to lead the development and implementation of Vision 2041 (the Institute’s current vision and strategic plan, completed in 2019) and institutional analysis (which provides high quality, responsive data to support decision making, create key performance indicators and track results of short-and long-term strategic priorities.)
She also oversees and coordinates the development and submission of proposals to various funding agencies including the provincial and federal government programs and private industries. This role is particularly critical to the Marine Institute, since approximately 45% of its funding is generated from non-provincial government grant sources. Recent successful proposals that have been developed include funding proposals to support the Institute’s Holyrood Marine Base (projects valued at $40 million).
She has also developed and facilitated a number of workshops on strategic planning, including to international delegations from Tanzania and Anguilla, and presented at several conferences.
Jillian has been a member of the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) for a number of years and is an at-large a member of SCUP North Atlantic Regional Council. She is also a board member for Thrive, an organization in Newfoundland and Labrador with a mission to assist vulnerable individuals achieve their full potential and enhance the capacity of social serving agencies. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry) and a Master of Business Administration from Memorial University of Newfoundland and is a graduate of SCUP’s Planning Institute.
